Chuck Mead

Chuck Mead (born in 1957) is a long time member and leader in the Linux and open source communities. He works for Red Hat in their Global Learning Services division.

Mead was the former President, Treasurer, and Director of Information Technology for the Linux Professional Institute as well as the former Chief Technical Officer of LinuxMall.com, a dot-com era Linux vendor.

He was also the founder and owner of MoonGroup.com, a consulting firm that specialized in creating email solutions for Linux, managing Linux documentation projects, and offering general support and service for Linux.

Though he originally studied music as an operatic baritone, it was during his 11 year service in the United States Army that he was introduced to the world of computer networking. A combat veteran of Desert Storm from which he received a Bronze Star, Mead has been working in the IT community now for 25 years.

In 2002, Mead forked Sorcerer GNU/Linux to create Lunar Linux, a source-based Linux distribution. As of mid-April 2004, he gave the project leadership to Auke Kok, arguably the project's most experienced and most active developer.

In 2005 he was the first Chairman of the Sender Policy Framework Council.
